Zack Kelly starts as opener in the second game against the Blue Jays

The Red Sox have chosen to open the second game of Monday’s doubleheader and announced that right-hander Zack Kelly will start the second game.

Kelly has made two starts as an opener this season and is 5-2 overall with a 2.74 ERA this year. He will most likely pitch an inning or two, and after that the Red Sox could either play a complete bullpen game or hand the ball off to Cooper Criswell or Brad Keller, both of whom could pitch as bulk relievers into the fifth or sixth inning.

On offense, the Red Sox will line up left-handed batting against right-hander Jose Berrios (12-9, 3.79) of the Toronto Blue Jays. Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Triston Casas and Rafael Devers will bat one through four, with Boston’s outfield consisting of Tyler O’Neill in left, Duran in center and Abreu in right. Rookie Mickey Gasper will start at second base, Connor Wong will catch and Ceddanne Rafaela will start at shortstop.
