Yellowstone in talks for season 6 led by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser

Yellowstone in talks for season 6 led by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser

Yellowstone fans may be able to look forward to another season of the Taylor Sheridan series, as a possible season 6 is in the works.

Although the series is scheduled to end with the second half of the fifth season, which debuts in November, following the departure of lead actor Kevin Costner, media reports say that negotiations are underway for a return of “Yellowstone” for a sixth season.

If the series is greenlit, lead actors Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will star in the sixth season of the flagship series. In the series, Reilly plays Beth Dutton, the daughter of John Dutton III (Costner), while Hauser plays Rip Wheeler, Beth’s husband and the family’s ranch hand.

A representative for Paramount declined to comment. Deadline first reported the news.

The news comes as “Yellowstone” prepares to wrap its fifth — and so far final — season after delays caused by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and conflicts with Costner meant that the second half of season five was not scheduled to debut in summer 2023. Production on the second half of season five of “Yellowstone” did not begin until May 2024 and is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, November 10 on Paramount Network and Paramount+.

Costner’s contentious relationship with the series was cited as a reason for the end of “Yellowstone” and had sparked speculation about whether he might appear in the second half of season five. In June, Costner confirmed he would not return for the show’s final episodes, saying in an Instagram video, “I just realized that I will not be able to continue with season five B or in the future.”

Costner’s limited involvement was visible in the first half of the fifth season, during which he reportedly gave priority to “Horizon,” his epic Western saga consisting of four films that he directs, co-writes and stars in. “Horizon: An American Saga, Chapter 1” premiered in late June.
