Yellowstone actress Kelly Reilly has signed a contract to star in a new Sky Original series, Under salt marshesfrom the creator Claire Oakley.

The six-part show is described as a “gripping crime thriller” set in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen, a place between towering mountains and a fast-approaching sea. Reilly plays detective-turned-teacher Jackie Ellis.

Oakley (Form, Perpetrator) is co-writer, executive producer and lead director of the show, which is produced by Little Door Productions in association with Sky Studios. Jonathan Harbottle And Nikita Lalwani are co-authors during Maria Nighy directs the third and fourth episodes.

The logline reads: “As a once-in-a-lifetime storm brews far out at sea, former detective turned teacher Jackie Ellis discovers the apparent drowned body of her eight-year-old student Cefin.

“The discovery sends shockwaves through the community and revives the ghost of an unsolved case that rocked the town three years earlier – the career-destroying disappearance of Jackie’s niece Nessa.

“Cefin’s death prompts Jackie’s former partner, Detective Eric Bull, to return to Morfa Halen to lead the investigation into a community he has already failed once before.

“Jackie and Bull are convinced that the cases are connected. They must reconcile and try to uncover long-hidden secrets in Morfa as quickly as possible before the storm breaks and all evidence is lost forever.”
