YARMOUTH – The Town of Yarmouth has released kind words in memory of Select Board Chairman Michael F. Stone, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 76 after serving the Town for over four decades.

Stone, a respected trial attorney and public servant, served as both chair and chairman of the Select Board’s Admissions Committee for eleven years.

An advocate for the development of young athletes, Stone served as Yarmouth’s recreation commissioner for twenty years and founded the local nonprofit organization Community Visions, which supports recreation in Yarmouth.

Stone’s work as a mentor and educator also extended to academia, where he shared his extensive experience in law and public service as a teacher at Fisher Junior College.

“Mike’s leadership impact on our community has been profound,” said City Administrator Robert L. Whritenour.

“He provided steadfast support to our city government and all of our city officials and employees, always pushing us to do what was best for the residents of our city,” Whritenour said. “His leadership, camaraderie and goodwill will be greatly missed and will not soon be replaced.”

Stone leaves behind his wife and daughters. The city will announce a memorial service for him in the coming days.
