Yankees activate star infielder from injured list in surprising turn

The New York Yankees receive reinforcements from the injured list in the form of star infielder Jazz Chisholm.

Although Chisholm could be out until September to rest and rehab due to a UCL injury, the new signing is expected to return on Friday.

According to multiple reports, first reported by Andy Martino of SNY, the Yankees plan to activate Chisholm from the 10-day injured list.

They have already taken a step in this direction by optioning infielder Oswald Peraza following Thursday’s 6-0 series win over the Cleveland Guardians.

Chisholm himself said earlier this week that he believed he would be removed from the injured list after the ten-day period, while other reports suggested a possible return in September.

The player was right in this case, which is a huge boost for the team with the best record in the American League on Friday.

In the 14 games since being signed shortly before the trade deadline, Chisholm posted a batting average of .316/.361/.702 with an OPS+ of 189, seven home runs, 11 RBIs and five stolen bases in 61 at-bats.

The Yankees host the Colorado Rockies for a three-game series in the Bronx that begins Friday night at 7:05 p.m. ET.
