NEW YORK (AP) — The Yankees activated Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the 10-day injured list on Friday after missing a game with a sprained left elbow. He was in New York’s lineup against Colorado.

Chisholm, who was released from the injured list on Friday, was scheduled to bat fifth and start at third base in the series opener against the Rockies at Yankee Stadium.

Chisholm injured his injury on August 12 in a loss to the Chicago White Sox when he dove headfirst into home plate while scoring a run. Initial X-rays were normal, but the Yankees did not rule out the possibility of surgery until an MRI scan found no damage to his UCL.

Chisholm has a .316 batting average with seven home runs, 11 RBIs and five stolen bases in 14 games since being signed by the Miami Marlins on July 27. Overall, he has a .257 batting average with 20 home runs, 61 RBIs and 27 stolen bases.

Chisholm got off to a quick start with the Yankees, hitting seven home runs in his first 12 games, becoming the first player in franchise history to do so. He played 13 of his first 14 starts at third base, despite never having played the position as a major leaguer.

“It’s no secret how well he’s played for us since he got here,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I know he wanted to play after an off day (last) Friday when we put him on the injured list, so I know he was already impatient then.”

To make room for Chisholm, the Yankees sent infielder Oswald Peraza to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Thursday’s game.
