Xbox Game Pass Core adds 3 more games on August 21

Highlights

  • Three new games will be released for Xbox Game Pass Core on August 21st.
  • Subscribers to the lower tier of the service get access to Cities: Skylines, SnowRunner and Control: Ultimate Edition.
  • Regular subscribers can probably expect more new games around the holidays.

Xbox has announced another series of games that will be available at the Core level of Xbox Game Pass. The switch from Xbox Live Gold to Xbox Game Pass Core happened last year and allowed Xbox Live users who didn’t previously have a Game Pass subscription to have a small library of over 20 games that they could download at no extra cost. Since then, Xbox has added a handful of titles to the core library every few months, covering major titles like Eternal fate, Fallout4, Dishonored 2and more.

2024 was a solid year for Xbox Game Pass, with games like Resident Evil 2 New edition, Persona 3 ReloadAnd Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to join the library at the beginning of the year and Mafia: Definitive Edition caused a sensation last week. Xbox’s own cinematic adventure, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, also landed on the service in May. There are still many big games coming to Game Pass this fall, especially Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 And Indiana Jones and the Great CircleDespite all this, it hasn’t been such a good year for Xbox Game Pass Core subscribers, as new games are slower to become available at this lower tier.

Xbox is announcing three new titles coming to the Core tier on August 21. New games coming to Xbox Game Pass Core on August 21

  • Controls: Ultimate Edition
  • SnowRunner
  • Cities: Skylines

control is a big win for Game Pass Core subscribers. The action-adventure title received critical acclaim upon release and was nominated for Game of the Year at the 2019 Game Awards, but ultimately lost to FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Control has remained relevant in the gaming zeitgeist through its narrative connections to Remedys Alan-Wake series, the sequel to which was released just last year to great acclaim. Players who have not yet explored the Federal Bureau of Control can now catch up, as Remedy is currently confirmed to be working on control‘s highly anticipated sequel. Whether the addition of the game to one of the Alan-Wake It remains to be seen whether games will appear in the core library at some point in the future.

It is rare to see a bigger, more popular game like control added to Xbox Game Pass Core, as the last few releases have been smaller indie titles. Game Pass Core subscribers can likely look forward to the next batch of games being added sometime around the holidays, as there are typically three or four months between new Core releases.
