World record for staying asleep: Can this streamer beat it?

World record for staying asleep: Can this streamer beat it?

This streamer is trying to break the world record for lack of sleep.

Everyone wants to set a world record one day, but are some records worth breaking? For YouTuber Norme, breaking the world record for lack of sleep has become a mission, and he’s doing it live on his stream.

But is it even worth attempting such a challenge?

Norme, a YouTube streamer, is attempting to break the world record for lack of sleep

The streamer has been live on his YouTube channel for over 12 days without sleep. At the time of writing, Norme has already been awake for 239 hours.

The current world record for not sleeping was set in 1986 by Robert McDonald, who went 19 days (453 hours and 40 minutes) without sleeping. Norme is only halfway to that mark.

Norme continues to stay awake by chatting, drinking caffeinated beverages, playing video games, and enlisting the help of friends to keep him awake so he can break the world record.

During his livestream, his friends kept him awake by holding him up when he lost his balance and talking to him throughout the stream. Different friends took different shifts.

Some of the people who help him on his stream have even expressed how worried they are about him, as this long lack of sleep poses a danger to the human body. In fact, Norme was delirious for most of the stream and barely spoke sensibly.

Is it safe to attempt to set the world record for lack of sleep?

No, absolutely not. Your body needs sleep. Even a whole night without sleep is terrible for us. Even if someone managed to stay awake for 19 days, that doesn’t mean that everyone else should try it.

What Norme is doing is extremely dangerous and could potentially be life-threatening. Hopefully the streamer decides to stop before it’s too late.
