World premiere of Jordan E. Cooper’s Oh, happy day! Find the complete cast

The Baltimore Center Stage production is a co-production with the Off-Broadway Public Theater.

Baltimore Center Stages upcoming world premiere of Jordan E. Cooper’s Oh, happy day! (a co-production with the Off-Broadway Public Theater) has found its full cast. BCS Artistic Director Stevie Walker-Webb is at the helm, reuniting with Cooper after leaving his There is no Mo’ both Off-Broadway and on the Main Stem. Performances will take place from September 19th to October 13th, with the premiere scheduled for September 27th.

As in There is no Mo’Cooper joins the cast of Oh, happy day!in the lead role as Keyshawn. Newly announced are James T. Alfred as Lewis, Tamika Lawrence as Niecy, Justin Sturgis as Kevin and Latrice Pace, Courtney Monet and Tiya Askia as The Divines.

The work reinterprets the biblical story of Noah’s Ark and begins with a birthday barbecue in Laurel, Mississippi. The story is accompanied by original music by gospel icon Donald Lawrence.

The production will be musically directed by Daniel Rudin, choreographed by Charlique C. Rolle, set designed by Liciana Stecconi, costumes by Celeste Jennings, lighting designed by Adam Honore and sound designed by Taylor J. Williams. Jakob Plummer will be production manager and Monet Tibou will be assistant director.

A performance at New York’s Public Theater is expected but has not yet been announced.
