One of World of Warcraft’s most notorious damage enthusiasts has returned to the MMO after about a year away and almost immediately discovered a bug that allowed him to one-shot raid bosses for 300 million points of damage.
Rextroy explains in a new YouTube video (below) that they were playing around with the rogue before realizing that they were getting 1,000 healing when they hit an animal, even though they were only doing 1,700 damage. The numbers are incorrect, as Rextroy’s rogue only has 0.01% health loss.
The WoW fan remembered something he had read in May about a bug fix regarding Critter damage transfer and got to work. Rextroy tested a Frost Mage 2 set bonus that deals 15% of Glacial Spike damage to nearby enemies and ended up eating up 204 million damage – also not quite intentionally.
Watch on
Rextroy suspects that The War Within’s pre-patch may have broken the May fix, or that the Leech his Rogue benefits from or the two-set bonus simply overrides the optimization. Whatever the case, the MMO couldn’t handle the damage transfer on Critters, so it was time to take advantage.
With a few more moves to boost Glacial Spike’s abilities, Rextroy and his crew lured a beast into the final Amirdrassil raid and managed to one-shot two of the bosses, dealing over 300 million damage. The damage demon said they could have taken out several more bosses, but they decided to leave it at that since their goal was achieved.
Rextroy says the bug has since been reported to Blizzard and fixed in the beta realms before the video went live, so you don’t have to worry about the first few weeks of the new expansion being ruined by any nonsense.
While the pre-patch for World of Warcraft’s The War Within is now available, the full expansion will be released on August 26th.
For 15 years, this MMO player kept a letter his late father sent him in World of Warcraft: “He made sure I always had something to remind me.”
