A 32-year-old woman is in critical condition in hospital after being stabbed at the Notting Hill Carnival, the Metropolitan Police said.

Police said on Sunday they were aware of three stabbings during the annual celebrations in west London. A 29-year-old man was in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and a 24-year-old man was also stabbed, but his condition had not yet been confirmed.

According to police, 15 officers were attacked, but no one was seriously injured. 90 arrests were made on Sunday.

A police spokesman said: “Hundreds of thousands of people came to Notting Hill Carnival today to enjoy a fantastic festival. Our officers were on duty and kept them safe as part of a very carefully planned police operation. Unfortunately, a minority came to commit crimes and violence.”

Arrests were made for a number of suspected crimes, including assault on an emergency worker, assault, possession with intent to resell, sexual offenses and robbery, police said.

In addition, suspects were arrested for drug possession, theft, possession of nitrous oxide and public order violations.

Police had previously said they had been granted expanded search powers to prevent further violence after a man was stabbed and knives were seized.
