Wilson named in Football Australia squad for FIFA U-20 World Cup

ORONO, Maine – Football freshman at the University of Maine Grace Wilson has been named in Soccer Australia’s U20 women’s squad for the upcoming 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

Wilson is one of 21 players and one of three goalkeepers in the Young Matilda squad that will travel to Colombia later this month and is among 24 nations participating in the biennial tournament, which is scheduled to begin on August 31.

Australia are in Group A and will open the tournament against hosts Colombia at 7pm on Saturday 31 August, followed by matches against Mexico on 3 September and Cameroon on 6 September. The round of 16 begins on 11 September, with the quarter-finals scheduled for 15 September, the semi-finals for 18 September and the final for 22 September.

Wilson, a native of Adelaide, Australia, was a member of the Young Matilda team that won bronze at the 2024 Asian Cup, qualifying for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Wilson made his debut for the Junior Matilda (U-17) in 2022 and attended several training camps before they won an AFF U-18 Championship – starting and keeping a clean sheet in the final against Vietnam. In addition, Wilson played for Adelaide United FC from 2021 to 2024, signing at the age of 16 and making his debut in 2024. He also played for the South Australia state U-14, U-16 and U-18 teams.
