WILLIAMSPORT ON THE WAY! Sioux Falls avenges loss to Webb City and advances to Little League World Series

WHITESTOWN, Ind. (Dakota News Now) – Summer vacation is lasting a little longer for the kids on the Sioux Falls Little League team.

They made sure of that by avenging an earlier tournament loss for the third time this postseason and securing their ticket to the Little League World Series.

Sioux Falls scored three runs in the second inning and never trailed against Missouri state champion Webb City, winning the Midwest Region Championship Game 6-1 on Friday night to advance to the Little League World Series for the third time in program history, joining their 2017 and 2021 teams.

The win avenged their only loss in regional play to Webb City (4-6 on Wednesday night) and marked the second time this postseason they beat an opponent that had previously outscored them in the tournament. They lost the first game of the South Dakota State Tournament to Canyon Lake last month, but were able to rebound and beat them later in the tournament.

Devin Cargin took the lead 1-2 with a run scored and two RBIs and got the game’s final two outs to seal the win. Manny Kortan took the lead 1-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. August Vortherm’s RBI triple in the 2nd inning opened the scoring.

Sioux Falls defeated Webb City 9-7.

Griffin Sommer, whose RBI single in the fourth inning increased Sioux Falls’ lead to 4-0, started on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings, recording six strikeouts and allowing just one run on seven hits.

Sioux Falls travels to Williamsport tomorrow to compete in the double elimination Little League World Series, which runs Aug. 14-25. Representing the Midwest, they will play Southeast champion Boerne (Texas) on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
