When asked what inspired the author to write this book, Brengman said, “When I was writing a short story for a short story writing course in college, I was criticized for not following the ‘rules of storytelling.’ I then wrote a short story that broke every imaginable rule of storytelling, spelling and grammar, in such a way that the story would fall apart if it were not written the way I wrote it. My lecturer at the time said, ‘I have been teaching for 20 years and I have never seen a story written like this.’ This story was not only the premise of my novel, but is also included in my book as ‘Appendix 11.2b.'” Second, someone asked me to explain the danger of self-improvement with a chip in your right hand or forehead without reference to the Bible and the fear of the Word of God. My answer was that computers can be hacked, have glitches, and need updating. That you can’t be sure of any interaction or sensation when a computer is connected to your nervous system.”
