Why this cheerleader is amazed by God’s plan for her life

Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Reese Weaver spoke about her faith and explained why she is grateful for the opportunity to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the role.

Weaver has been an NFL cheerleader for two years. She recently became a public figure with the release of the new Netflix show AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS, which follows the team as they perform for a year. Weaver was one of the main characters in the show and her strong faith was highlighted.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think this was God’s plan,” Weaver said on the podcast “Unplanned.” “Obviously He exceeds our expectations and gives us much more than we could ever ask for. And so I just didn’t know that this was anything like His plan for my life.”

“I never thought this would happen and I never dreamed it would happen because at the end of the day, all I wanted to do was be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader,” she added.

While the girls in Weaver’s role are often admired and even idolized, she is grateful for the opportunity to share the reality of being a cheerleader with others and to highlight both the positive and negative sides of the position.

“I think the world is kind of tired of seeing picture-perfect perfection, because that’s not how it is in real life. So I hope that in everything we do and everything we say, in every interaction we have, we show, ‘Hey, we’re relatable.’ We’re just as broken and confused and messed up as, well, every other human being,” Weaver said.

“I think the show reinforces that we are daughters, sisters, friends, women who have big dreams, but there’s so much more going on behind the scenes as well, and I think the show really shows and reinforces that because when you put on that uniform, there are a lot of eyes and little girls staring at you with stars, and you’re like, ‘Oh no, the stars are actually in my eyes,'” she continued. “Because what I can do is, you know – it’s just such a mutual thing to be able to give back in a way, but also become relatable in the sense that you’re like, ‘Hey, if I can do this, you can do this too.'”

Weaver has spoken about her faith in the past, saying in her Instagram bio that she “dances for a singles audience.”

“I pray that whoever sees this one day sees (God) and not me,” she told producers, according to the Deseret News.

Weaver’s humility and desire to be authentic is a big reason Netflix chose her as one of the show’s main stars, giving audiences a likable and relatable person to root for. It’s amazing to see how she handles her newfound fame and uses her platform to spread the gospel rather than focusing on herself.

Movieguide® previously reported on another Cowboys cheerleader:

Claire Wolford, Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and star of “AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS,” says being part of the legendary cheerleading squad has made her faith “so much stronger.”

“I never thought cheerleading was something I wanted to do,” she explained on an episode of the podcast “Happy and Healthy.” “The world of sports entertainment never even crossed my mind.”

Wolford was more interested in commercial dance and planned to move to New York or Los Angeles, but as her college graduation approached, she began to rethink her views.

“One day I felt like my mind had changed and I thought to myself, ‘Okay, you have to do something that will impact other people too… you’ve been given this gift, but how are you going to use it to serve God and others?'” she said…

She also said that being on the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading team strengthened her faith.

“It has made my faith so much stronger,” Wolford said. “Since I’ve been on the team, we’ve had Bible studies, and I’ve had so many mentors and girls who have guided me in my faith, and I hope to do the same for other girls.”
