Cooler weather and the Iowa State Fair are signs for some that summer is ending and fall is beginning, but when is the first real day of this popular season?

When is the first day of fall 2024?

The first day of fall begins in the Northern Hemisphere on Sunday, September 22, at 7:44 a.m. Central Time, according to the Farmer’s Almanac. The first day of summer was June 20. The astronomical start of a season is based on the position of the Earth relative to the Sun, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.

The autumn meteorological season begins on September 1 each year and is based on the annual temperature cycle and the 12-month calendar.

When is Labor Day 2024?

Labor Day is another mental calendar indicator that summer is coming to an end, but at least most people have the day off.

This year, Labor Day falls on September 2nd. The federal holiday is always the first Monday in September.

What will the weather be like this fall?

While August was cool in Iowa, the Old Farmers’ Almanac promises a warm fall.

After a wet spring and record flooding, Iowa residents must also prepare for a season of below-average rainfall.

But the Farmer’s Almanac expects a frosty fall and early snow.
