What jungle legends have to prepare for

Sad that the Olympic Games are over? Don’t worry, it will continue seamlessly at the highest level. After all, this week it’s the first time that “I’m a Celebrity – Showdown of the Jungle Legends” will be broadcast on RTL+ and RTL. The all-star season of the jungle camp promises some innovations.

We’ll wake up a few more times…then the jungle will call. And that in the middle of summer! Because Sonja Zietlow and Jan Köppen are presenting a special edition of the jungle camp for the first time on RTL+ (and from August 16th also on RTL) under the motto “I’m a star – showdown of the jungle legends”.

The Allstars season features a total of 13 candidates, all of whom have already taken part in a regular edition of the successful RTL show. However, they will have to prepare for some changes in the format concept.

It starts with the setting of their jungle adventure: The Allstars season will not take place in Australia, but in South Africa. Although the reality show has already moved there once – when Australia backed out in 2022 due to possible Corona travel restrictions – this is the first time it has come to this.

“Completely new dynamic”

There is also a significant difference in the prize money, because who wins 100,000 euros at the end is not decided by the viewers. This is because the Allstars edition is not broadcast live on TV, but was recorded in advance.

On RTL+, viewers can see the current episode a day earlier than on RTL. There, the show airs at prime time at 8:15 p.m.

Even if the viewers have no influence on who has to face the jungle test or leave the camp, there should be no lack of excitement. “A lot will be decided in the tests and in the team. I think that will create a whole new dynamic,” explains Sonja Zietlow in an interview with RTL. “You no longer have the excuse that the viewer from outside decided something and ‘it’s not really my fault and I can’t really influence it’,” adds Jan Köppen. “But the people in the camp can then look each other in the eye at the end and have to say: Why did you say I should do this or leave now?” That would be exciting on a different level, says the presenter.

The rules are the rules? Definitely not

When it comes to special features in the Allstars season, Zietlow lets the cat out of the bag: “If you don’t win a trial training session, for example, you have to go home. That can happen. What happens within the team simply has consequences.” Apart from that, however, Marc Terenzi’s famous saying “rules are rules” does not apply. In the jungle camp special edition, there are no fixed rules that the candidates have to follow in order to avoid punishment.

The new broadcast format will also change the work of Zietlow and her colleague Jan Köppen in the reality show, she reports. “We are not live, which means we don’t have to do a live show, we don’t have to work night and day.” The tried and tested duo should therefore be well rested for their presentations.

Even though the all-star season of the jungle camp is not broadcast live, viewers can watch the current episode a day earlier at 8:15 p.m. on RTL+. The elimination of live broadcasts and viewer influences creates a new dynamic within the camp, as the candidates have to face the consequences of their actions without blaming external factors.

Despite the switch to a recorded format, Sonja Zietlow and Jan Köppen now have more time to prepare for their moderation tasks, as they no longer have to do nightly runs and live shows that last all day.
