What are you playing this weekend? (August 10)

What are you playing this weekend? (August 10)

There is only one thing I will be playing this weekend and that is DOOM + DOOM II. I grabbed the free upgrade on Switch as I already owned both titles individually, but I had to buy it on the PS5 to get some of that wonderful 120fps gameplay.

The updated soundtrack is great too. I didn’t think I’d be able to tear myself away from the classic original, but it really takes the experience to a whole new level. So far I’ve only played the original games, but this weekend I’m hoping to dive into the brand new campaign: Legacy of Rust.

I have several games running right now, Nier: Automata and Half-life: Blueshift to name just a few, but a few nights ago Zelda The hype got me and now I’m playing “The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening” again.

I was really excited to play through the remake a second time and thought it would be especially fun to do so on Hero Mode, which made me even sillier when I realized I’d already completed my first playthrough on that higher difficulty.

I don’t care, I’m going to have a blast on Koholint, probably for the fifteenth time (including the original), and this time I’m going to give it 100%. I’m doing it for Marin.

I’m slowly but surely working my way through World of Goo 2. The original is one of my absolute favorite games, so I’m fighting the urge to finish this one and then run out of new Goo. I’m currently on Chapter 2 and absolutely loving it.

Elsewhere, I bought Mushihimesama on sale just before it’s discontinued. Shmups are a big gap in my gaming knowledge, so I want to fill it with the best of the best. Let’s see how I get on!

This weekend I want to finish GRIS, which I started earlier this week.

I am loving It has brought tears to my eyes so far and playing it with headphones and being completely immersed in the game is a surreal experience!

Switch packed and ready to go, along with a legendary backlog of titles releasing this year alone. That’s right, it’s time for my long overdue annual offline vacation, where I’ll spend equal amounts of time playing video games, making music, reading comics, and being the best Ken I can ever be (he only does beach).

This weekend is all about SteamWorld Heist IIa sequel to a personal favorite in the series. I wasn’t expecting DOOM+DOOM II to come out of nowhere with 16-player crossplay co-op support, which reminds me of past LAN parties with friends. I’d love to play Trinity Fusionbut the game crashes (so far) only when loading the tutorial into the dashboard. Of course Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – Deluxe Edition is still on the menu (these aces won’t shoot themselves). Unfortunately Cat Quest 3 (physically) didn’t make it in time.

Game of the week is Völgarr the Viking IIAs a big fan of the original and its inspiration RastanI welcome the hardcore precision jump/sword strike challenge with open arms. There are so many incredible games coming out in the next few weeks, I’m so glad to be able to enjoy them all in one place without internet!

That’s what we have planned for the weekend, but what about you? You can tell us which game you’ll be playing primarily in the poll below, and then share what else you have planned in the comments.
