Wet roads delay the start of the opening race day of the Manx Grand Prix

The opening day of the Manx Grand Prix was postponed due to heavy rain overnight and a problem with water entering part of the track.

The roads should have been closed at 09:30 BST but remained open until 12:30, firstly to allow surfaces to dry and then to allow Manx Utilities to attend to the problem at Union Mills.

The 2024 race was postponed by one day because severe disorders for qualification.

Irish racing driver Louis O’Regan has died Following an accident during qualifying on the first day of the meeting on Sunday and bad weather, all evening sessions of the event before the race had to be cancelled.

Due to the delays, the pre-race qualifying rounds for all classes were cancelled.

The revised daily schedule includes a warm-up lap, followed by the three-lap junior race.

This will be followed by the Classic Senior race and the Lightweight race, which will be the final race of the day. Both races will also be held over three laps of the 37.73 mile Mountain Course.

Due to the road closure on Saturday, the route may remain closed until 9 p.m.

Due to the bad weather forecast for that day, the organizers have ruled out closing roads for the races on Sunday afternoon.

The remaining races of the event will take place on Monday.
