Well-known gamer John Carpenter provides input for new Halloween game

John Carpenter directed some of the best horror and adventure films of the 1970s and 1980s: The Thing, Halloween, They Live, Rattlesnake, Big Trouble in Little Chinaand so on. He is also an avid gamer and recently told insider that he just wanted to “play video games and watch basketball” because “that’s all that matters to (him).”

In other interviews he revealed a passion for Sonic the Hedgehog, Jak and Daxter, Fallout 76, Borderlands, Horizon Forbidden West, Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and ClankAnd Assassin’s Creed (in particular Valhalla).

This is one of the reasons why Carpenter is working on a new Halloween Video game is such good news, on all fronts. As first reported by IGNTwo new games based on John Carpenter’s 1978 film are currently in the works at Boss Team Games, the publisher behind Evil Dead: The GameBoth are reportedly being worked on by the producers of the Halloween franchise, but one is being developed specifically with “input” from John Carpenter himself.

“As an avid gamer myself, I’m very excited to bring Michael Myers back to life in this game and I hope to scare the crap out of you,” Carpenter said of the project.

According to a press release, both games will invite players to “relive moments from the film” by assuming the roles of classic characters. The genre and style of these games are currently unknown, as is their context.

Since Boss Team has experience with asymmetric survival horror, we can assume that at least one of the games will be developed with this genre in mind, but it is also worth noting that the development of Evil Dead: The Game was canceled less than two years after its release, indicating a lack of sustained player support.

Halloween could pique the interest of more gamers, and John Carpenter’s involvement should certainly bring more attention, which could encourage Boss Team to try again. At the very least, it’s nice to see Carpenter get a chance to work on video games. He’s been talking about his passions for years, and now he has the chance to explore them more thoroughly.

“Everyone on the Boss team is excited and honored to be working with Malek Akkad (Halloween Producer) and John Carpenter to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime experience that fans of the film and video games will love,” said Boss Team.

No further details were given about the upcoming Halloween games, but there is probably a lot more information on the way.
