Weigman and Green on the list of comeback players of the year

Weigman and Green on the list of comeback players of the year

When looking at Texas A&M’s roster, two players who have suffered recent setbacks in their college careers are back to prove their star qualities on the field: Redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman reunited with sophomore tight end Donovan Green this fall ahead of the 2024 season.

As two of the last remaining players from the historic 2022 recruiting class, Weigman developed a special bond with Green during their first season with the program, but after both suffered season-ending injuries, including Green’s brutal ACL tear just weeks before the 2023 season, the road to redemption is painted in maroon and white.

So far, both players have made steady progress during fall workouts this month, as Weigman’s outstanding accuracy and touch have remained unchanged while his throwing velocity has increased. Coming off the bench to start the season seems more plausible for Green, but his performance this fall has shown he’s ready to get back on the field after putting on healthy mass in the offseason.

With high expectations placed on both players, Weigman and Green were recently named to the preseason watch list for Comeback Player of the Year.

Texas A&M opens the 2024 season on Saturday, August 31 against Notre Dame. The game will air at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
