Weather in Maryland: Severe weather warning until 10 p.m.

BALTIMORE – Severe weather warnings and flood alerts are in effect until 10 p.m. tonight. Watch the weather as severe storms are possible.

These storms could bring wind gusts of up to 60 mph, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding.

A Flash flood warning was issued for Baltimore County and Baltimore City until 11:15 p.m.

The WJZ First Alert Weather Team continues our First Alert Weather Day warning of severe storms and flash flooding through this evening. Morning clouds cleared to give way to afternoon sunshine, bringing temperatures into the 30s to 35s. In addition to the warm temperatures, the air is very humid, which will also favor thunderstorms.

Strong to severe storms will move in from the west toward the evening. The latest computer models indicate that severe storms will move into the Baltimore metropolitan area between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The storms may have wind gusts between 60 and 70 mph, which can knock down trees and cause damage. The storms will also bring torrential rain and rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Flash flooding may occur in areas with multiple thunderstorms, with local rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches. Severe thunderstorm and flood warnings are in effect for most of Maryland until 10:00 p.m.

The storms will leave the area after 11 p.m. Partial clearing and scattered fog are expected overnight. Lows will drop to 18 to 20 degrees.

Monday will be another very warm and humid day. A strong cold front will cross the region in the afternoon and early evening hours. Sunshine will give way to clouds throughout the day, with highs rising to over 30 degrees. The morning hours will be the driest part of the day.

Scattered to widely scattered thunderstorms will occur between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday. Some of the storms could become strong to severe. Areas along and east of I-95 are under a slight risk for severe storms (Level 1 of 5). The stronger storms could bring wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph, brief downpours, and small hail. The greatest risk for widespread storms will be along and especially east of I-95 in the late afternoon and early evening.

An unseasonably cool air mass will form in the area Monday night into Tuesday. Highs on Tuesday will remain around 25 degrees, with a mix of sunshine and clouds and a gusty breeze.

Temperatures on Tuesday night will fall below 10 degrees outside the Baltimore Beltway and above 10 degrees downtown. Wednesday will see another day of early fall weather with highs between 75 and 80 degrees and mostly sunny skies.

A gradual warming trend begins on Thursday as highs rise above 27 degrees. A large dome of high pressure will continue to protect our weather from late next week into next weekend. That means sunshine and nice weather. If you have plans for outside from Friday into next weekend, you’ll be good to go. Highs will rise above 27 degrees next Saturday and nearly 32 degrees by next Sunday.

Even though it will be hotter next weekend, the humidity will not be too high, so most of us will be able to tolerate the upcoming heat wave.
