Good morning, West Michigan! Be on the lookout for some areas of fog this morning that could limit visibility for commuters. The fog and low cloud cover that may be present around daybreak will clear by late morning and we’ll see plenty of sunshine this afternoon. Much like Wednesday, today won’t be what you’d call “hot,” but it will be humid, with dew point temperatures ranging between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the day.

The weather will be nice for FOOTBALL FEVER’s high school games tonight, although players and cheerleaders will disagree, saying it’s too warm and humid. It will also be warm and a little muggy in the stands, so everyone – players, cheerleaders and spectators – will need to remember to stay hydrated.

A cooler, drier air mass will arrive tomorrow (Friday). Ahead of the air mass, temperatures will rise to the 30s to 40s, and with dew points around 18 degrees, we’ll have heat index temperatures around 35 degrees. In the mid to late afternoon, the collision of the air masses will likely produce showers and thunderstorms. There is a slight chance that some of the storms will be strong to severe. Meteorologists at the Storm Prediction Center have rated our region at “low risk” (level 1 of 5) for severe storms. While this is the lowest risk level, there is still a risk, so we will continue to monitor the situation.

Behind Friday’s front, the air is gradually becoming pleasantly cooler and significantly less humid – just in time for the holiday weekend!

Meteorologist Jeff Porter analyzes the latest weather model data this morning to bring you up to date on Friday’s chance of rain. His LIVE reports can be seen from 4:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on News Channel 3.

I wish you a nice Thursday!
