CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – First Alert Weather Day continues tonight and Friday. Numerous hazards are looming from Tropical Depression Debby moving into Virginia overnight. The greatest danger is heavy rain that can trigger flash flooding. A Flood Warning is in effect for the entire 29″ sighting area. Widespread 3 to 6 inches of rain are expected, with local higher amounts of 15 or more expected, especially in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is beneficial given the ongoing drought, but will still trigger flooding. The heaviest and most rain will fall tonight into Friday morning. Use caution if you live near small streams, rivers, and other low-lying areas prone to flooding. Remember to never cross flooded roads!
