WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup star Doyeong Kim becomes youngest KBO player to enjoy 30-30 season – World Baseball Softball Confederation

Doyeong Kim became the youngest player in Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) history to record a 30-home run, 30-stolen-base season when he hit his 30th home run of the 2024 season on August 15.

Kim – born on October 2, 2003 – was 20 years, 10 months and 13 days old when he broke the record.

He surpassed Jaehong Park, who was 22 years, 11 months and 27 days old when he reached the 30-30 milestone in 1996.

Kim is having a career season, hitting 147 of 425 batters in 110 games with 82 RBIs and a batting average of .346.

Kim was Korea’s starting shortstop at the 2021 WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup. He appeared in six games and went 6-for-17 (.353 batting average) with four RBIs.

Korean fans have nicknamed Kim The Stepson of the Wind after Kiwoom Heroes outfielder Jung-Ho Lee, a star of Tokyo 2020 and WBSC Premier12, compared Kim’s skills to those of his legendary father Jong-Beom Lee. Jong-Beom was known as “The Son of the Wind” and Jung-Ho as “The Grandson of the Wind.”

KBO is the highest professional league in Korea. Attendance numbers in 2024 are on track to reach a record high. The regular season has so far had 5,901,265 spectators, an average of 14,464 per game. The attendance record for a single season was 8.4 million fans in 2017.
