Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas praised Vice President Kamala Harris’s record as a prosecutor in her speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday.

Crockett, a former public defender and criminal defense attorney, painted a picture of Harris as a caring public servant who stands in stark contrast to her rival in the 2024 presidential race, former President Donald Trump.
“What I love about Kamala Harris goes beyond her resume. It’s that she sees the humanity in every person,” Crockett said.
The congresswoman told a story from her early days in Congress when she met with Harris for an official photo. Crockett, who has already faced attacks from some Republicans in the House, said the vice president approached her and asked what was going on.
“She saw through me. She saw my need,” Crockett said, beginning to cry before pausing. “And the most powerful woman in the world wiped my tears and listened to me.”
After a brief pause, she continued, “It’s so hard to tell this story,” but she recounted how Harris had comforted her in that moment.
On the first day of the convention, delegates officially adopted a party platform. Later in the week, Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will officially accept their nominations as the party’s candidates.
