Watch: MS Dhoni’s epic badminton smash

Former Indian national team captain MS Dhoni may have announced his retirement from international cricket, but his love for the sport, which includes more than just cricket, remains. He has been spotted playing tennis in his hometown of Jharkhand and even flew all the way to the US to play golf with his friends. While these sports alone are not enough, who would pick up a badminton racket and deliver an epic shot that leaves the opposition baffled? Dhoni has once again shown that he is fit and even good enough to continue playing cricket.

A video is doing the rounds on social media in which Dhoni is seen on a badminton court hitting a jump smash at rocket speed. Dhoni was battling his knee injury during the IPL 2024 while playing for the Chennai Super Kings. However, it seems that the former CSK captain has recovered well and is fully fit. During his badminton session, Dhoni hit a smash shot and his opposing team members had no answer for it.

Will Dhoni return for IPL 2025?

Fans were keen to see if Dhoni would return to CSK in IPL 2025. There was a provision in the IPL rule books that said players who have retired from international cricket for five years can be considered unattached, but this rule was abolished in 2021. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanath, while commenting on the matter recently, denied making such a request and said that the BCCI will decide on the rules.

Meanwhile, Dhoni also opened up about his retirement plans and hinted that his decision will depend on the retention rules for the upcoming major auction for IPL 2025.

“There is still a lot of time left for the franchises and the management to decide on the retention rules and everything else. So when everything is decided, we will take a decision. So no, we don’t have the ball in our court. When the regulations are decided, we can take a decision… Ultimately, we have to take a decision which is best for CSK and that is the ultimate aim,” Dhoni said at an event.
