Last week, a Washington County man was arrested in Noble County.

Timothy Wines, 53, of Washington County, was driving on Interstate 77 near mile marker 23 in Noble County on July 30 when Noble County Sheriff’s Detective Cory May and Deputy Dylan Guerrieri in one vehicle and Deputy Cory Barker in another vehicle noticed several criminal clues as Wines drove by them, according to a Facebook post from the Noble County Sheriff’s Office in July.

They attempted to stop traffic, but Wines exited I-77 and led them on a chase through Belle Valley and Caldwell, the post said.

According to the post, Noble County Sheriff Jason Mackie rushed to help and reported that during the pursuit, it became clear that Wines had no regard for the community or others.

The report said Wines drove through residential areas, onto private property and had near head-on collisions with police officers and passing motorists.

“The pursuit ended when the pursued vehicle drove behind a resident on Belle Valley Road and was stopped by officers,” Mackie said in the post. “The driver escaped from the vehicle with a dog while it was still driving and ran into a wooded area.”

The post said officers were unable to pursue Wines because they had to deal with his still-moving, driverless vehicle, which May stopped with his patrol car.

According to the post, officers searched the vehicle and the cellphone inside, which led to the identification of Wines as the driver.

“We learned that there was a nationwide arrest warrant against Wines, which explained why he had fled from us,” Mackie said in the Facebook post.

A July 30 Facebook post said there was an arrest warrant out of Jackson County, West Virginia, for Wines. Information about the warrant was not available.

The sheriff’s office informed the public in a July 30 Facebook post that it was searching for Wines near State Route 340 at Gorby Run Road and asked the public to report any unknown or suspicious persons in the area.

“This afternoon, sheriff’s detectives discovered an interesting location on Belle Valley Road where they believe Wines may have been hiding.” said a Facebook post on July 31. “Sheriff Mackie, along with detectives and deputies, responded to the scene and observed Timothy Wines’ dog on the property. While searching the bushes surrounding an unoccupied home, Timothy Wines was found. He and his dog were arrested.”

According to the post, Wines was taken to the Noble County Jail and his dog was taken to the Sheriff’s Office, where he will be kept until another caregiver is found.

In the post, Mackie said he was proud of his agency and appreciated the support he received from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Noble County Sheriff’s jail records, Wines is still in the Noble County Jail on a failure to comply with regulations.
