Warhammer: The Old World – The Chaos Invasion is Coming

Warhammer: The Old World – The Chaos Invasion is Coming

Bring the Chaos invasion from the north. Warhammer: The Old World will soon send its “big, bad” army to war!

If there was one army that could entice me to play Warhammer: The Old World, it would be the Warriors of Chaos. Why? Well, mostly because I already had that army. Like many former Warhammer Fantasy players, I thought about breaking out my old army and giving it a go. But to be completely honest, I just didn’t want to bother. In the years since, I’ve rebased most of my Chaos Warriors for Age of Sigmar. I was pretty happy with them in that system, so why rebase them again? Plus, I didn’t even have a physical book to use for it. Ravening Hordes is nice and all… but I wanted an Arcane Journal. I thought I’d wait until that came out.

Now that Book along with a reissue of the old models on the horizon. I suddenly start to feel something calls my name again. Chaos is coming. And I think I like it…

Warriors of Chaos gather

This weekend, the Warriors of Chaos for The Old World are available for pre-order. There’s something about their army that I’ve always found appealing. It’s the idea of this faceless wall of armor heading to war. They don’t care about the enemies that stand in their way. They’ll tear through them and show no mercy in the process. I give this game trailer a lot for that:

Good times. Anyway, there is another factor I really like about this new edition of Warriors of Chaos: the box set.

You get A LOT out of this box. I don’t know if people remember the old Warhammer Fantasy Battalion boxes from back in the day. They were like $90 back then. It was basically half of those boxes and I bought two of them for my army. It was a really good deal back then and this looks like it could be the exact same setup.

I, like many other players, have a Chaos Lord and/or Sorcerer lying around, so the character slots are already covered. I expect this box will be highlighted in a similar way to the other army boxes, so that will be a good starting point I think. The hard part will be getting those reference card packs… they seem to be selling like hotcakes!

I’m also happy that the old Chaos Warriors are coming back along with the Chaos Knights. To be honest, I’m a little torn on some points. I quite like the AoS relaunch versions. The Chaos Warriors, however, are legendary for their ability to rank up. perfect. That was one of the nicest things about this kit and the reason (I think) why it stayed in production for SOOOO long.

If nothing else, even if I don’t dive back into the Old World feet first, I’ll be grabbing the Arcane Journal. I’m really interested in the lore section and some of the teasers GW have mentioned are intriguing. There are tons of characters they could go with given the timeline they’re working in. Who knows! Maybe I’ll be inspired to rebuild the army again. I’ve already worked out a color scheme and I’m pretty sure I could pull it off now that I’ve had a lot more practice with it.

The old siren is calling again. There is chaos in the air…

A pure Chaos Undivided Army for Warhammer: The Old World? Hmm… I could support that.
