Voters in Martin County express concerns about development

In Martin County, one to watch on Tuesday is the county commissioner and school board elections.

Neighbors told WPTV this area code is important to them because they are concerned about community growth and development in the area.

“I want to keep Stuart small. I don’t see any big construction projects here,” said resident Joy Degregorio. “A lot has changed here since we moved here 30 years ago.”

“It’s getting too crowded here, so I voted early,” added local resident Joseph Johnson.

Between early voting and mail-in voting, voter turnout in Martin County was 15%. Vicki Davis, director of the Martin County Elections Department, expects another turnout of at least 15% on Tuesday. The overall turnout will then be 30%.

“So many of our local elections are decided in primaries, so it’s really important for voters to get informed and vote,” Davis said.

Another neighbor tells us why he decided to vote early.”

I want the people of Martin County to make the right decisions. I know what I want for the community, so I already sent in my ballot,” said BR Johnson.

On Election Day, voters must vote in their precinct. Voters can confirm their precinct by clicking here or calling the Elections Office at 772-288-5637.

Voters must bring a signed photo ID when voting in person on Tuesday.
