RAIPUR: Renowned author Vinod Kumar Shukla He was awarded the highest membership in the Sahitya Akademi in recognition of his significant contributions to Indian Literature. Sahitya Academy Secretary K. Srinivas Rao personally visited his residence in Raipur to present the award.
This membership is the most prestigious award given by the Sahitya Akademi in India. On this occasion, Rao praised Shukla’s unique ability to poetry with fictionand points out that his work challenges conventional artistic standards.
Rao noted that Shukla, like Gautam Buddha, is immersed in spirituality yet full of compassion for common people. For him, who seeks to convey the vision of the vast universe through his poems and stories, writing is as natural as breathing. This is why reading the collected works of Sri Vinod Kumar Shukla feels like a sacred endeavour that readers need to purify themselves.”
He also stressed that Shukla’s writings require new criteria of evaluation, underlining his importance as one of the greatest writers of our time. Shukla’s poems, he added, beautifully capture both local and global themes.
Vinod Kumar Shukla, born on January 1, 1937 in Rajnandgaon, has been writing for over 50 years. His novels, including Naukar Ki Kameez, Khilega to Dekhenge, And Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thiare celebrated as some of the finest works of Hindi literature.
Shukla’s short story collections, such as Ped Par Kamra And Mahavidyalayahave also attracted great attention. Last year, PEN America honored Shukla with the Nabokov Award for International Literature, making him the first writer from Asia to receive this prestigious recognition.
