Veterinarians rescue injured reed cat

A Jungle Cat was hit by a vehicle near Peenya, close to Jarakbandi forest, was rescued after an urgent surgical intervention. The cat was found injured at 1.00 am by a local volunteer, Vasanth, who immediately sought help from People for Animals (PFA).

“Our priority was to immediately stabilize the cat,” said Rahul J, curator at PFA Wildlife Hospital.

The cat was carefully cared for by Colonel Dr. Navaz Shariff, Chief Wildlife veterinarianwho quickly assessed the severity of the injuries. The cat had a complicated Fraction his mandibular symphysis – a fracture in the jawbone – as well as several cuts on his front leg and head. Dr. Navaz advised immediate operation due to the severity of these injuries.

The surgery was performed by an experienced veterinary team led by senior veterinarian Dr Madhav and Dr Dhanush. After the surgery, the cat was given painkillers and antibiotics to aid her recovery. The cane cat has now been moved to a larger enclosure where her recovery will be closely monitored.

The veterinary team continues to monitor the healing of the cat’s jaw and overall progress. Once the six-year-old wildcat is fully recovered and able to survive in the wild, he will be released back into his natural habitat.
