Robert Trusty III’s family is struggling to come to terms with his loss – but a family friend says their greatest wish is justice.

“I’m sure it’s just a nightmare he can’t wake up from,” said Michael Marsh, a longtime friend of Trust III’s father.

Trusty III’s life was tragically ended last Thursday by a shooting in a Vero Beach neighborhood. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the murder.

Marsh spoke with WPTV reporter Zitlali Solache and recalled Trusty’s impact on the community.

“His dad is my best friend and we’ve both seen each other’s kids grow up,” Marsh said. “Not being able to see him become a father and grow up and everything you expect to see as a father, it hurts.”

“You never expect to have to bury your child, and I think that’s the part where I just feel sorry for him right now,” Marsh said. “I couldn’t even believe it.”

Following the tragedy, Marsh is calling for solutions. The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral costs.

“He was a son, he was a brother, he was a nephew, he was someone in the church,” Marsh said. “His life was important to all of us. There’s no reason to take another life, and it’s so senseless.”

Her relatives are confident that an arrest will be made soon, as the authorities say they have already identified several suspects.

“The whole family is devastated by this,” Marsh said. “You can see it on the mother’s side and the father’s side. Everyone agrees that we need to draw a line under this.”
