Utah’s Cam Rising on the list of Davey O’Brien Award winners

Cam Rising continues to receive recognition and pick up more preseason accolades. On Thursday, the Utah Utes leader was named to the prestigious Davey O’Brien Award Preseason Watch List, cementing his status as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks. The award is given annually to the nation’s top college quarterback and is one of the most prestigious honors in college football.

Rising was one of 36 players on the watch list, including several other notable quarterbacks from the Big 12 Conference. This recognition places Rising in elite company, alongside quarterbacks like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Kansas’ Jalon Daniels and UCF’s KJ Jefferson. The Big 12 and ACC each have eight quarterbacks on the list, highlighting the level of talent in their respective conferences.

Given his stellar performance over the past few seasons, Rising’s inclusion on this list is well-deserved. In 2022, Rising was a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award after a stellar season in which he threw for 3,034 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushed for 465 yards and six touchdowns. His leadership on the field earned him MVP honors of the 2022 Pac-12 Championship Game and he was a two-time All-Conference selection.

Throughout his career at Utah, Rising has proven to be the centerpiece of the team, leading the Utes to an 18-6 record, including two Pac-12 championship victories. Rising’s career stats are equally impressive, ranking in the top 10 all-time at Utah in completions, touchdown passes, passing yards and passing efficiency. As the 2024 season begins, Rising continues to cement his reputation as one of Utah’s greatest players and hopes to add even more accolades to his name.
