USA Basketball vs France in Olympic Gold Medal Game: How to Watch, Predictions

After a stunning comeback win against the Serbian team in a thrilling 95-91 semifinal, the United States men’s basketball team is now hoping to win its fifth consecutive gold medal in a rematch of the final of the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

The French national team, currently led by 20-year-old rising superstar center Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, defeated the German national team in the semifinals and will now look to use their home advantage against the Americans in Paris on Saturday.

The US team is facing a major rotation change that, frankly, should have happened some time ago.

Head coach Steve Kerr intends to move the leading scorer in USA Basketball history, All-NBA power forward Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, to the starting lineup, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. According to Charania, combo guard Jrue Holiday, who is on the Boston Celtics’ All-Defensive Second Team, will be demoted to the bench.

Why Holiday, one of the best perimeter defenders in the world, is being benched and not All-Star Suns shooting guard Devin Booker is a bit of a mystery. Yes, Booker had some defining moments during his Olympic run, but neither he nor Durant is an elite defender right now.

In addition to Durant and Booker, the Americans’ starting lineup also includes All-NBA combo forward LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, All-NBA point guard Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and All-Star center Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers.

James, for example, knows that Saturday will probably be his last Olympic game.

“It’s at the top. I’m 39 years old, it’s my 22nd season. I don’t know how many more opportunities and moments like this I’m going to get to compete for something, to compete for something big and to play big games. And tonight was a big game,” James said after his team’s semifinal match against Serbia, according to BasketNews.

How to watch

The game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on NBC and its streaming partner Peacock, as well as streaming platforms Fubo and Sling TV.
