BOWIE COUNTY, Texas (KSLA) – Work to widen US 82 from Interstate 30 to US 259 in Bowie County is scheduled to begin in November.
Work is set to begin on widening US 82 from Interstate 30 to US 259 in Bowie County. The project includes widening US 85 to a five-lane road, including a continuous center left-turn lane from US 259 to 1.4 miles south of Interstate 30.
Tommy Bruce, engineer for the Texarkana area, says at least one lane in each direction will remain open to motorists throughout construction.
“The overall goal of this project is to improve safety, mobility and regional connectivity,” said Katie Martin, director of transportation planning and development. “These improvements will accommodate future traffic volumes along the U.S. 82 corridor,” explains Katie Martin, director of transportation planning and development.
Other projects:
- Accommodations for pedestrians and cyclists are also being built within the city limits of De Kalb.
- The Northeast Texas Trail System along US 82 from US 259 to County Road 4105 in Malta, spanning seven miles, will be relocated 25 feet south and improved.
The project is scheduled to begin in November and be completed in 2028.
The contract was awarded to Drake Companies LLC from Paris with a bid of 114,513,431 US dollars.
