Two parks in Iowa are on the list of the 100 most breathtaking views in America

Two Iowa state parks were recently recognized for their beautiful views, joining a list that already includes Cape Cod, the Manhattan skyline, the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls.

Pikes Peak State Park and Loess Hills were named to Mixbook’s list of the 100 Most Breathtaking Views in America.

The list was published just in time for World Photography Day on August 19th.

Mixbook, a popular photo book publisher, surveyed 3,000 Americans to compile a list of the 100 most photo-worthy views in the United States.

How did Pikes Peak State Park in Iowa fare for the most breathtaking views?

Pikes Peak in McGregor finished 47th overall, with particular praise for the park’s overlook.

“The overlook at Pikes Peak State Park offers breathtaking views of the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers,” says a press release from Mixbook. “The overlook offers panoramic views of the river valleys that are especially beautiful at sunrise.”

How do the Loess Hills rank for the most breathtaking views?

For the Loess Hills, which ranked 87th, the Murray Hill Scenic Overlook was the most photogenic scene.

The overlook in Harrison County in western Iowa “offers a unique view of this distinctive landscape. The overlook offers expansive views of the rolling hills and valleys that are especially dramatic at sunrise or sunset,” the press release said.
