Two new laws affect local areas in Marengo and Boone County

(WIFR) – A bill allowing alcohol to be served at a Boone County venue and another bill improving water infrastructure in Marengo are becoming law.

The two bills were among more than 260 that Governor Pritzker signed on Friday, August 9.

The North Boone Fire Protection District #3, located at 305 W. Grove Road in Poplar Grove, will soon be able to rent its hall for events that include alcohol. There is no other banquet facility in Poplar Grove that allows the sale or delivery of alcohol. The new law will take effect on January 1, 2025.

“Poplar Grove residents are entitled to have a local facility that they can rent for all types of occasions, including events where alcohol can be legally served,” said the bill’s sponsor, Assemblyman Joe Sosnowski. “Local families and organizations will benefit from this change as they will be able to gather and celebrate in Poplar Grove.”

Another bill allows the City of Marengo to acquire land needed to expand water and sewer services for the I-90 Route 23 Corridor, made possible by a $26.9 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The bill takes effect immediately.
