Tutu Atwell sprained her ankle but is fine

The Rams have a large and talented group of receivers – as long as they stay healthy.

One of them recently escaped serious injury.

Coach Sean McVay told reporters Monday that veteran fourth-year player Tutu Atwell was OK. “He just sprained his ankle,” McVay said at the start of his press conference Tuesday. “He’s OK.”

Atwell, who started 14 games in 2023, caught 38 passes for 483 yards and three touchdowns. He is currently listed as one of three backup receivers on the Rams’ unofficial preseason roster.

“It’s a strong group,” McVay said of his receivers. “I think there have been a lot of signs of good development, but as we all know, there’s still a long way to go. We haven’t even played a game yet.”

Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua play in this position, the third starter is Demarcus Robinson. (Nacua is currently out with a knee injury.)

Then there’s sixth-round rookie Jordan Whittington and veteran Tyler Johnson, who won a Super Bowl with the Bucs in 2020.

“I thought that was definitely a good example of Jordan Whittington being able to step up and take advantage of opportunities,” McVay said. “(Johnson) is doing a good job and continuing to lead things in the right direction. … The four other guys … have done a lot of good things for us, but in this league you have to earn it every day. I like where they’re going, but we still have a long way to go.”

Whittington had a solid preseason debut with six catches for 74 yards. Including this. And here is a video all nine goals on his debut.
