“True History of the Kelly Gang” gets great UK trailer

The Australian outlaw Ned Kelly was the subject of the world’s first full-length film – 1906 The story of the Kelly Gang – and now the iron antihero returns to our screens once again in Justin Kurzel’s The true story of the Kelly Gang on February 28th.

In the title role, played in other films by Heath Ledger and Mick Jagger, 1917s George MacKay and he is supported by an all-star cast that includes Russell Crowe, Essie Davis, Nicholas Hoult, Charlie Hunnam and Thomas McKenzie.

We’re excited to share the new UK trailer for the film, which you can watch in full above, giving a glimpse of Ned Kelly’s iconic moment – his final fight in armour – and showcasing the film’s grunge style.

The film premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, where this new punk-inspired film received great critical acclaim.

It was announced as a return to form for Kurzel, whose Assassin’s Creed Film he made a disappointing detour into blockbuster territory after the wonderfully atmospheric Snowtone, The turn And Macbeth.

Produced by Hal Vogel (Final) and Liz Watts (The king), with Paul Ranford (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Justin Kurzel, the film is based on Peter Carey’s Booker Prize-winning novel and was adapted by Kurzel’s former collaborator Shaun Grant (Snow City) and co-financed by Film4.

Summary: Kurzel’s film shatters the myth of the infamous icon to reveal the essence behind Ned Kelly’s life, taking audiences on a fascinating journey into the ashes of this brutal period in history.

The film depicts Kelly’s younger years and the events that led to his death, exploring the reasons behind the downfall of this legendary figure. Youth and tragedy collide in the Kelly Gang, and at the heart of the story is the fractured and powerful love story between a mother and her son.

The true story of the Kelly Gang will be in British cinemas from February 28th.
