Japan continues to fascinate travelers with its mix of modernity and tradition

Traveloka, Southeast Asia’s leading travel platform, has achieved record success with its EPIC Sale 2024 campaign, attracting over 35 million customers and saving millions through discounts of up to 80%. This event is considered the most successful sales campaign in Traveloka’s history.

The EPIC sale resulted in a near doubling of traffic in key markets, particularly Indonesia and the fast-growing Malaysia market, cementing Traveloka’s position as the go-to destination for millions of travelers in the Asia-Pacific region.

This remarkable success has been made possible by working with over 10,000 partners, including major brands such as Malaysia Airlines, Accor, Archipelago International and Hong Kong Disneyland, as well as tourism associations such as the Hong Kong Tourism Board. These partnerships offer a wide range of options for every type of traveler.

Customers were able to enjoy even greater discounts with Traveloka’s payment partners, resulting in a five-fold increase in credit card transactions and a six-fold increase in daily turnover. These promotions offered customers additional savings of up to 15% with discounts of up to $740 per transaction, demonstrating the impact of exclusive offers from leading banks.

Exploring travel trends: Insights from the EPIC Sale 2024

In addition to impressive figures, the EPIC Sale 2024 provided important insights into Southeast Asia’s travel behavior and travel preferences:

Top Destinations: The sale highlighted the most popular destinations, with Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong being the top choices. Japan captivated travelers with its mix of modernity and tradition, South Korea attracted visitors with its vibrant culture and Hong Kong stood out for its dynamic cityscape. Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam also remained favorites due to their unique mix of experiences.

Booking behavior: The sale revealed a mix of spontaneity and planning among travelers. While 82% booked their trips 3-4 days in advance, indicating a demand for last-minute travel, Traveloka’s offerings catered to both spontaneous and organized travelers.

Lodging trends: Travelers benefited from a wide range of affordable accommodations. Leisure travelers preferred spacious rooms, business travelers sought functionality, and families opted for larger suites with amenities. These preferences helped boost occupancy and revenue during traditionally slower times.

Top Attractions: Sales showed a significant shift towards family-friendly attractions, with bookings for theme parks and water parks increasing by 70%. LEGOLAND Malaysia, Hong Kong Disneyland and Resorts World Sentosa saw bookings increase by up to four times, reflecting growing demand for family-focused experiences.
