Tram accident in Ocean City: Tram service on the boardwalk suspended after 2-year-old dies in collision

Following a tragic accident that killed a two-year-old child, Ocean City authorities have suspended service of the boardwalk tram indefinitely.

Mayor Rick Meehan expressed his deepest condolences to the grieving family. “Our hearts are heavy with grief for the family’s unimaginable loss,” he said in a statement Wednesday. “Ocean City is a close-knit community and we share in their grief. We are committed to supporting the family and taking all necessary actions to prevent such tragedies in the future.”

The incident occurred on August 20 at around 8:14 p.m. near Dorchester Street.

According to police, the child was crossing the tram stop when he was hit by a tram heading south. The emergency services confirmed the boy’s death at the scene of the accident. Both tram drivers remained on site after the accident.

The city is working closely with law enforcement and other agencies in the ongoing investigation.

The authorities are calling on the public to think of the family and pray for them during this difficult time.

The cause of the accident was initially unclear. The authorities have not yet identified the child.
