Yay! Moana, Maui, Heihei, Pua the pig and the arrow-wielding Kakamora are back in the new D23 trailer for Disney Animations Vaiana 2 – The Great Adventure. The preview was first shown at D23 before being released online (via Toonado.com) and promises an epic, visually stunning adventure for these beloved characters.

Lead actors Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson were on hand to get fans in the building in the mood for the sequel. The former thrilled the audience with a live performance of one of the film’s new songs, “We’re Back.”

Meanwhile, dancers and drummers from Nonosina Polynesia, led by Tiana Liufau – who contributed an animation choreography – Vaiana – The wonderful world of love and this sequel – and Johnson encouraged the crowd to sing a rousing “Chee Hoo!” chant (also seen below).

Additionally Vaiana 2 – The Great Adventure Cast members were also announced, including returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s grandmother Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother Sina).

The sequel also features the voices of Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo as Moana’s new crew members Moni, Kele and Loto. Awhimai Fraser voices the mysterious new character Matangi, Gerald Ramsey plays Moana’s ancestor Tautai Vasa and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda lends her voice to Moana’s adoring and adorable little sister Simea.

The epic animated musical from Walt Disney Animation Studios Vaiana 2 – The Great Adventure reunites Moana (voice of Cravalho) and Maui (voice of Johnson) three years later for a new, extended voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her pioneering ancestors, Moana must journey to the distant seas of Oceania and dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike any she’s ever experienced.

The film was directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. Vaiana 2 – The Great Adventure features music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.

The film’s screenplay was written by Jared Bush and Miller, and executive produced by Jennifer Lee, Bush and Johnson.

Shortly after the Vaiana 2 – The Great Adventure part of the panel, Disney also confirmed that Johnson is working on Monster Jama new live-action film about monster trucks. “We can create something that is engaging, cool and entertaining,” The actor told the participants: “from the perspective of these incredible monster trucks and their eccentric owners.”
