TPD arrests suspect in connection with sexual abuse of 13-year-old girl

Tucson police have arrested a suspect and are still looking for several other people in connection with the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in April.

David Manuel Samaniego Jr., 50, was arrested on July 31 at a residence near East 22nd Street. He was charged with suspicion of sexual intercourse with a minor.

According to a TPD news release, the girl was a passenger on Sun Trans Bus Route 17 on April 1. Police said an older man approached her and persuaded her to go to his home near East Kleindale and North Country Club roads.

The girl ingested an unknown substance, lost consciousness in the apartment and eventually regained consciousness. She was surrounded by the man and other men, the press release said. According to police, some of the men sexually abused her during this time, the press release said.

The attack was reported to patrol officers the following day.

The second suspect was identified as 70-year-old David Manuel Samaniego Sr.

Two other suspects have yet to be identified. Anyone with information on Samaniego Sr. or the two suspects is asked to call 88-CRIME.
