Tony Fisher Award Watchlist for August 27

The Tony Fisher Award is given to the News-Herald’s high school football player of the year. The award is named after Tony Fisher, the former Ohio Mr. Football from Euclid who went on to play for Notre Dame and the NFL. He is currently the athletic director at Euclid.

The Tony Fisher Award watch list can and will change weekly. This week’s watch list is, in alphabetical order:

Danny Alfieri, Kirtland, Sr.: He ran for 52 yards and four touchdowns in the Hornets’ 55-34 win over Dalton.

Drayton Allgood, Chardon, Jr.: He carried the ball 14 times for 139 yards and threw it for 38 yards in the Hilltoppers’ 29-7 victory over Timber Creek, Florida.

High school football top of the crop for August 26th

Shahn Alston, Harvey, Jr.: He was injured and did not play in the Red Raiders’ opening loss to Rocky River.

Alex Ash, Chardon, Sr.: He had 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup in the Hilltoppers’ 29-7 victory over Timber Creek, Florida.

Tymir Cardona, Kenston, Sr.: He caught three passes for 75 yards in the Bombers’ 19-18 loss to Boardman.

Sean Dillard, Gilmour, Sr.: He caught four passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns in the Lancers’ 49-14 victory over Valley Forge.

Jackson Farley, Mentor, Jr.: He carried the ball 17 times for 149 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals’ 36-13 victory over Massillon Jackson.

Scotty Fox, Mentor, Sr.: He completed 12 of 21 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns in the Cardinals’ 36-13 victory over Massillon Jackson.

Caleb Hewitt, Chardon, Sr.: He carried the ball seven times for 91 yards, had one catch for 38 yards and three kick returns for 127 yards in the Hilltoppers’ 29-7 victory over Timber Creek, Florida.

Justin Hodge, Mentor, Jr.: He caught three passes for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals’ 36-13 victory over Massillon Jackson.

Bo Jackson, VASJ, Sr.: He ran for 172 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings’ win over Canton GlenOak.

Lucas Kaltenbach, Kenston, Sr.: He completed 15 of 27 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 19 yards in the Bombers’ 19-18 loss to Boardman.

Jake LaVerde, Kirtland, Jr.: Carried 16 times for 341 yards and three touchdowns in the Hornets’ 55-34 win over Dalton.

Brody Lennon, Gilmour, Sr.: Caught four passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns and also had an 18-yard touchdown run in the Lancers’ 49-14 victory over Valley Forge.

Chris Maloney, Benedictine, Sr.: He carried the ball eight times for 96 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals’ 43-7 victory over Canton South.

Owen McKoon, Perry, Sr.: He carried the ball five times for 91 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a pass for 10 yards in the Pirates’ 42-10 victory over Madison.

Donovan Moorhead, Hawken, Jr.: He completed 14 of 19 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns in the Hawks’ 42-0 victory over Rhodes.

Walter Moses, Perry, Sr.: He completed 10 of 19 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns in the Pirates’ 42-10 victory over Madison.

Cooper Panteck, Gilmour Jr.: He completed 17 of 20 passes for 346 yards and five touchdowns in the Lancers’ 49-14 victory over Valley Forge.

Ace Peterlin, Catholic See, Sr.: He caught six passes for 68 yards in the Cougars’ 14-0 victory over Cardinal Mooney.

Luke Sivon, Perry, Sr.: He caught four passes for 6 yards and a touchdown in the Pirates’ 42-10 victory over Madison.

Frankie Trinetti, Lake Catholic Church, Sr.: He completed 11 of 20 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in the Cougars’ 14-0 victory over Cardinal Mooney.

Austin VanHuss, Mentor, Sr.: He caught two passes for 42 yards – both for touchdowns – in the Cardinals’ 36-13 victory over Massillon Jackson.
