CHENNAI: Rajaneesh P of Villupuram, a student from the Dalit community who scored 720 marks in NEET UG-2024, bagged the first rank among the government-admitted quota students, the Directorate of Medical Education announced on Monday.

The next eight of the top 10 candidates achieved 715 points.

Syed Aarifin Yusuf M from Anna Nagar in Chennai, Shailaja S from Kodambakkam, Sriram P from Ramanathapuram, Jayathi Poorvaja M from Tiruvannamalai, Rohit R from Namakkal, Sabareesan S from Namakkal, Roshni Subramaniyan from Chennai and Vignesh MJ from Namakkal scored 715 points and are ranked second to eighth in the rankings.

Vijaykrithikk Sasikumar from Coimbatore stood at 10th place.

Incidentally, among the top 10 there is only one candidate from the open category, while there are seven from the BC category and one each from the SC and BC categories.

The performance of public school students has improved this year, with their best score being 669 (last year it was 569).

Roobika P from Krishnagiri, a student of SC community (Arunthathiyar), topped the 7.5% quota list for government school candidates with 669 marks.

Rathish G, another student from SC community (Arunthathiyar), secured fourth position with 665 marks in the 7.5% quota for government school candidates.

Syed Aarifin Yusuf M from Anna Nagar in Chennai, who ranks second in the government quota list, secured first place in the management quota with 715 marks in NEET-UG.

Except him and Jason Chandrajsingh J from Tirunelveli (NEET score 710), all others in the top 10 Management Quota come from outside Tamil Nadu. All these eight candidates are from the open category and all have performed worse than the Government Quota students in the top 10.

This year, more than 9,050 MBBS seats and 2,200 BDS seats are available in Tamil Nadu after a private educational institution was recently declared a teaching institute by the state health department.

On August 21, the selection committee will begin the deliberation process for admission to the medical and dental programs for the 2024-25 academic year.

On August 22 and 23, special counseling sessions will be held for people with disabilities, people with a reservation quota of 7.5 percent and a sports quota, and former military personnel.
