The Detroit Tigers have placed rookie outfielder Wenceel Perez on the 10-day injured list due to a strained left oblique muscle.
Perez left the game in San Francisco on Friday night after apparently straining a muscle during a batting appearance in the fourth inning.
To take Perez’s place on the roster, the Tigers recalled outfielder Akil Baddoo from Triple-A Toledo.
After beginning the season in Toledo, Perez eventually became the Tigers’ starting right fielder. He has a .242 batting average with a .684 OPS (90 OPS+) in 378 at-bats. He has 13 doubles, five triples, nine home runs and nine stolen bases.
This is Baddoo’s fourth stint with the major league club in 2024. In limited opportunities, he has only achieved a batting average of .117 (7 of 60).
Baddoo, who turns 26 next month, was drafted by the Tigers in the Rule 5 Draft and had an electrifying rookie season in 2021 before suffering a frustrating drop in performance as a sophomore in college in 2022. He has been splitting his time between Toledo and Detroit since then.
