Three found dead in Carthage home; victim’s family seeks answers

LEAKE COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – The family of a Carthage woman is searching for answers about her death.

Kelly Duarte was found dead in her home along with two others on August 24.

Duarte’s death shocked the Carthage community and left many devastated by the loss of one of the community’s strongest voices.

“It was just a joy to watch her grow up. We hunted. We fished. We did so much together and as a mother, she is one of the best mothers you could imagine. She loved her children, they loved her and she loved her family,” said Kenny Stewart, Duarte’s father.

Stewart is still in shock after losing his daughter, who leaves behind four children. Family members say the children were in the house when the incident occurred.

“They have four children who will be without a mother… And this could have perhaps been prevented. That’s what we want to know,” said Cynthia Danevich, Duarte’s aunt.

According to a statement from the Leake County Sheriff’s Office, Airy newsThe incident occurred in the early hours of August 24.

It states that around 4 p.m., Leake County officials were dispatched to the Freetrade Community, where they found Kelly and her husband, Reynaldo Duarte, who had reportedly been hanged.

They also found another man, later identified as Robert Walker. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Now the family wants to continue searching for answers to the exact events.

“This little boy is screaming, ‘Mommy, I can’t stand this.’ You know, I have to listen to this when maybe they could have stopped it or prevented it. I don’t think these children should have to suffer. I may be wrong, God forgive me if I am, but if you have a job to do, you do it,” Stewart said.

We reached out to the Leake County Sheriff’s Office for more details on what happened, but since the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff said he could not comment at this time. They agreed to send WLBT a statement, but we have not yet received one.
