CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Tigers earned their second clean sheet of the season as they defeated West Virginia 3-0 on Friday night at Historic Riggs Field. Freshman Kendall Bodak scored her first collegiate goal, while Jenna Tobia and Mackenzie Duff scored their first goals of the season.

“It was a good win tonight against a West Virginia team that is always tough to play,” said head coach Eddie Radwanski. “Our team got off to a good start, scored three very good goals, we moved the ball well and defended together as a team. Overall a very good performance.”

Clemson brought energy to the game early in the first half when freshman Kendall Bodak scored first for the Tigers in the 12th minute. Junior Emily Brough passed the ball to freshman Anna Castenfelt, who found Bodak in scoring position. Bodak headed the ball past the West Virginia goalie to give Clemson a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after Bodak’s goal, sophomore Jenna Tobia scored her first goal of the season when she fired the ball past the Mountaineers’ goalie in the 20th minute. Castenfelt passed the ball to Bodak, who attempted to head it in, but the ball bounced in the opposite direction of the goalie. Tobia, perfectly positioned behind Bodak, found the rebound and fired it just past the goalie for the second goal of the night.

To close out the half, Mackenzie Duff scored the Tigers’ third goal in the 32nd minute. A Dani Davis free kick opened the scoring opportunity for Duff as she took the second header of the night and scored in impressive fashion. Duff led the Tigers to their final goal of the game and their first of the year.

Clemson goalkeeper Nona Reason recorded her second clean sheet of the season, stopping two shots and holding the Mountaineers offense in check for a full 90 minutes under the lights of historic Riggs Field.

Next up, Clemson will seek its third win of the season when they face the Furman Paladins on Thursday, August 29th at 7 p.m. in Greenville, SC.
