Thousands of students in Escambia County return to class

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) – Buses are rolling through Escambia County, including some to NB Cook Elementary.

This is just one of several schools that resumed classes on Monday morning, as more than 37,000 students across the country do the same.

And while the students enjoyed a long summer, the schools worked nonstop to prepare.

“There’s a lot of work to do to prepare for the new year. We’ve been working on schedules, new programs, and also safety features for our school. We’re making sure we’re prepared for our students and ready for them today. We’re just super excited to have everyone here,” said Principal Larry Knight.

And it is also an exciting day for the parents who drop off their children.

“Oh, it’s great. He’s really excited that his older brother is going to be a sophomore and start here after next school year,” said Lillian Montana.

“We’ve spent time with some of the parents and some of the kids’ kids all summer, but it’s pretty exciting to see everyone together last week and come back today,” said Jack Montana.

And when the new school year begins, it is important that everyone starts with a smile on their face.

“It’s an exciting day for the students and also for the adults involved,” Knight said.

And the Escambia County School District says that with patience and a positive attitude, a smooth start to the school year is possible.
